wtf??!!!

Ok anyone who has replied to my latest thread knows I just went thru hell with a tranny swap in my 96 gxe automatic to get it ready to be sold...when I say this car has been an omen...well it just came to full fluition today...tranny swap done over a month ago...used tranny...135k miles...new tranny filter and gasket before swap...tranny has shifted smooth for the past month...as of today the car is down again with the same damn issues the last tranny had...car will not go into 1st gear or reverse...but has 2nd gear on up...wtf is going on with this car...what am I missing? Ive never had this many problem out of a 4th gen until this current one...can someone clue me in on anything I may be missing? I was told the valve bodies in these trannys were known to fail? Could a failed valve body stop car from shifting...car blew out tranny fluid from dipstick when I went to check fluid levels. I don't wanna continue to throw money at this car or put another tranny in it if its not the problem.

This is alarming, did you connect the vent line when you did the swap?

All hoses and lines were reconnected to original locations.

Write a descriptive headline man. Wtf does not tell anyone what problem you have, so people do not know whether they can offer any advice or not.

My advice to you is to take your car to a transmission shop and ask them to tell you what is wrong and give you an estimate of repair cost. Then you can make your decision on what to do.

Sorry about the one word subject line...kinda made this post while in utter frustration still....only thing is theres only 2 transmission shops here where I live and wouldn't u know...they both told me they don't work on import transmissions...wth?? so that just fueled my anger lol...im really at a loss for words my fellow .org members...like I said prior...ive never had much issue outta my 4th gens but this one here takes the cake...2 transmissions in 6 months both end up suffering the same problems to cause me to do swap?? how common is that?

The breather hose for the transmission is a good question. I also wonder if the oil cooler line that runs through the bottom tank of the radiator is plugged up.

When I purchased my 4th gen it wouldn't shift so I checked all the fuses first and the AT fuse was missing. I don't know why or what the person before me did. But I replaced it... And it has been golden ever since.

The radiator has an oil cooler built into it. It is in the bottom tank, below the cooling fins. You have to connect 2 lines from the transmission to the radiator.

Below is a photo of a new radiator before I installed it in my car. The photo is looking at the side that goes towards the engine. In the top left corner of the photo is where the upper radiator hose attaches. The bottom of the radiator, the black part below the silver cooling fins, is the lower tank. To the left and right of the yellow straps are the transmission oil line inlet and outlet connectors. You should have lines from the transmission connected to these.

If the transmission was running too hot and self destructed because of it, I don't know how long it would take. I doubt if anyone could predict it. But for oil to come out the dipstick, the transmission is being pressurized. I'm taking a guess at boiling oil.

yeah, there's 2 s-shaped lines that connect underneath the radiator to the trans that can cause major problems if leaking but you would see fluid blowing all over the place if they weren't present. i had 1 of the lines leaking and replaced it cause my trans felt weird like it was'nt shifting at the proper shift points ( auto ) and topped off the fluid and turned out i needed a new trans anyway. my new trans had 90,000 miles on it when installed and seems good so far.

Were all the lines blown out during the first tranny change??? If they were full of contamination it could be the cause for your next short lived trans swap! The oil cooler and lines should have been cleaned/blown out to ensure good flow and no CONTAMINATION!

yeah, that would def be a problem, or he could've got a tranny with selenoids or torque converter already wearing out.

Two ATs blown along with ATF shooting out of the dipstick leads me to believe one of two ATF hoses or the radiator is clogged. Drain the ATF and clean the hoses and the radiator outlets where they connect.

Did you try tightening the screws on the back of the cluster? I know some old 95-99 maximas have an issue where the transmission revs out if the screws are slack behind the speedometer. Just a mention.
