hate to start a thread about mount replacement, but....

i need my rad mount and firewall mount done, i was quoted 466.00 for parts and labor and thought that was a tad high. i would love to keep oem mounts and get a pair of pressed in courtesy mounts done but i can't get the garage to install outside parts. options?? mounts need to be done, bad.

It sounds like they don't want to install parts that they do not supply as they could not guarantee them. Talk to them. Tell them you understand their "concern" about this and you would not expect them to guarantee the parts, just the installation.

A bigger concern for the shop is that they will not make any profit on the parts you supply. A lot of times a shop charges 150 to 200% of what you can buy the part for at a parts store. And there is a good chance that they get a discount if they buy from the same place all the time. They probably won't admit to this, so don't bring it up.

And then there is always the good old "get a second estimate" thing.

You hold meets, right? Hold a tech meet and have your buddies help you. You provide the pizza, beer etc.

The front mount is easy while the rear mount is more involved.

Keep shopping around. $466 is way too high.

little late for the meet, and i don't think anyone would want to do work outside in the temps we've had lately. i want a warranty and the ying-yangs that looked at the car are always trying to make a buck off me. won't take outside parts, i know i can get all 4 mounts for like 125-150.00, now it's getting somene to put hen on for a good price is the problem.

why don't you ask your local shop if they can order the part from courtesy and guarantee their work and not the part. If I recall correctly the cross member has to be lowered. The bolts that hold the mount/cross member in can be really rusty, you might run into a problem there but other than that it's not too bad. Whether is freezing down here high of 30's all week.

Agreed. You missed the boat for an outdoor tech meet. Now you'd have to find someone with a garage. It's still 75 degrees here in SoCal

A Warranty on mounts? They're just rubber mounts. LOL. A warranty isn't really needed as I'm sure these new mounts will outlast the car.

If you still have your old mounts, get energy suspension mounts and press them in at your leisure. A set of ramps and 45 minutes and your done.
