Replaced rack and pinion

I did this two days ago and I noticed the steering doesn't turn all the way right as much as it does left. So basically I could make a u turn going left but to the right I can't without backing up and in. I'm not going to be doing right u turns but that's how it is. Does that mean I need alignment or the rack is bad or what? The steering is nice and stiff like it should be. Steering like new almost except that. Rack I put in is rebuilt or refurbished

You need to center the rack, then set toe and most likely reset your steering wheel on the steering shaft to center it again.

Aww man, does that mean I have to take rack out again? That whole job took me forever, 10 hours, I didn't do it actually it was a friend mechanic.

He's a shop mechanic. He's done lots of the work on my car off the shop for less labor. He changed the mounts together with rack. The other work he's done was good so he did this and i trusted him to do it. I don't know if it actually matters because I'm not gonna be doing right u turns at all. I could do the right u turn but not sharp like left.

It might not really matter but it doesn't sound like it's right.

U-turns or no ... it not being correct would drive me friggin insane.

You need to disconnect the steering shaft at the rack. Then center the rack, reconnect the steering shaft and set toe. The rack doesn't have to be completely removed. Your not physically moving the rack assembly, just the steering rack and pinion.
