car will not start

Hi I have been having trouble starting my 1997 nissan maxima . If I put key in it will make one click and that's it. The radio and everything else works. We have had advanced auto zone test starter and it was fine. Changed out ignition switch and inhibitor relay. Still does the same thing. Anyone have any ideas.

Time to get your voltmeter out and do some troubleshooting.

Here is a link to a troubleshooting thread for the 5th gen Maximas, but it applies to the 4th gen as well:

check battery and starter cable connections. also the chance that its an intermittent solenoid or gear tooth failure on the starter

next time it only clicks, try starting it in neutral as well (foot on the brake obviously)

Won't start

1997 nissan maxima won't start. I turn the key and it makes these 3 clicking noises and that's it. Just put new starter on and it is getting power. Also have a new ignition switch. Took battery in to advanced auto zone and thy tested it says it was good also was charged a little. Could there still be a bad battery? Don't have a way to test amps. Also tried starting in nuetruel Not sure what else to do

CEL?
Bad ground?
Could always buy a new battery and return it afterward

Is the Bendix engaging on your new starter. There have been reports over the years of bad starters right out of the box. And again for everyone's benefit, your symptoms are no start vs. no crank. Correct.?
