Starter replaced, now car is DEAD

what did I do?? I swapped starters, now I've got NO electrical anything.

I also spliced on a new end of neg battery cable as it was just about broken off.

Weird symptom: I tried jumping it and when I put the final +cable on, it was sparking like crazy (so I stopped). This has to be related to the starter replacement? Did the car go into some kind of shutdown?

I'm going to retrace my steps and double check everything tomorrow when I'm not so tired and in the daylight but I can't believe I botched a starter job.

Feels like something is backwards, electrically. Just wanted to see if anybody else ever experienced this.
Thanks-
Happy New Year

You might short your battery, double check your connections.

Maybe something is touching the cable from the battery down on the starter?

make shure that the battery cable that hooks onto starter aint touchin any metal part of the starter. or anything. take a test light and probe it onto the engine somewears. if it lights up 12 v the wire is touchin somewear. trust me i done it before and couldnt figure why it didnt blow any fuses but it didnt.
