I would, too. The alternator is an 18 volt device. The voltage regulator keeps the voltage level down to 14. Even if the battery was bad, the voltage level should not have gotten that high. I don't trust that alternator/voltage regulator.

If you are checking the voltage yourself, some voltmeters will give false readings if the battery in the meter is getting low. Check that just in case.

The young man at Batteries Plus, whom I queried post-resolution, thought that a plate could break inside the battery and expose one plate to another, (me talking now) thus putting the plates in series (whereas normally they're parallel).

One of the normal failures of a car battery is that the plates warp and touch each other. This creates a short and discharges the battery internally. If you check the battery while this is happening, the voltage will be less than 12, not more.

Not for a 4th Gen you don't, since they don't offer parts for anything earlier than a 2000 ... I'm pretty sure I've pointed this out to you previously.

The Infiniti's electrical system performed "flawlessly" yesterday during a highway trip.

The electrical weirdness that was observed two weeks after warranty replacing the failed AutoZone alternator (namely, high voltage and dash lit up like a Christmas tree) was resolved by warranty replacing the battery (only).

I've re-read these posts and I swear it only _sounds_ like I'm making this stuff up.

Also I'd like to apologize for threadwhoring OP granturissimus's 2011 post with these alternator shenanigans.

Hopefully the problem is resolved and you can go back the worry-free driving.

Electricity is weird ... it's always been weird ... it'll always be weird.

When you changed the alternator from the top, I understand you removed the radiator fans and shroud. For doing that, did you remove the hoses from the radiator? I'd like to avoid that, I just know they'll start leaking after that.

What do you guys think of the ACDelco 335-1322? It seems to come with 2 years warranty instead of 1 (Bosch).

I got mine from either AutoZone or advance Auto and I think it had a lifetime warranty, seems like most parts I get anymore have a lifetime warranty

I had my alternator rebuilt at a local electrical shop that has been in business for over fifty years. They did a great job rebuilding the OEM 125 Hitachi alternator and the cost was $110.00 out the door.

I actually have 3 Alternators in my Garage(shop) which were junk yard finds and looked practically brand new! Take them into a local auto parts store for testing and all three passed with flying colors! Rockauto is an Excellent source to get a Hitachi or Denso unit! My advice is to get one junkyard unit for emergency situations, testing, or to use permanently...Good luck! Make sure you don't have a short in your wiring before connecting a perfectly good alternator!
