grinding noise accelerating when turning

i have a 1995 maxima, automatic with 118,000 miles. among other things that have been replaced on the front wheels there have been

both bearings replaced within 3 years
two new control arms 6 months ago
two new inner and outer tie rods
two new axles replaced a year ago (all boots look 100%)

i know my brake pads wear unevenly (next summers project) and its definitely not the brake shields because i checked them numerous times and they have plenty of clearance all around. it is not the brake pads riding the calipers, this is a different noise. more of a grinding on metal, not scraping. i have another 95 that has a caliper seized up bad so i know what that sound is.

it started two winters ago and has gotten progressively worse to now it reliably makes the noise on turns while i accelerate ONLY. when i take my foot off the gas and continue to turn it stops. if i accelerate gently on a turn while moving it wont do it unless i mash the gas. when i accelerate and dont turn it wont make the noise (most of the time). it sounds like its coming from the front right wheel but its almost like it is coming from the center passenger side of the car. do you guys think it could be a motor mount or transmission mount? to my knowledge they are all original. any ideas?

I don't think a motor mount could do that. I think you have a wheel bearing going out again.

dont the wheel bearings make a thumping sound when they go bad? i was listening to it yesterday real close and it does it ALOT more on right turns, would that mean its the left side bearing?

so funny story, yesterday it made it on left turns only. sounds like gears grinding but the tramission pulls great if that matters.

I would lift the car up and check drive shafts. I also had a problem with my ABS sensor grinding against a deformed wheel bearing.

Probably wheel bearings. Had both fronts done on mine and the driver side went bad about 5 months later. I had the same issueS with turning also

update: i was replacing the parking brake cables over the weekend and checked the driveshafts while i was there. the driverside abs ring was sticking out of the hub and was crooked! i tried to get the hub off to re-align but didnt have time so i left it for now. wierd thing is since i left the heat shields off the noise has stopped since Saturday. very odd. i cant think of anything that would have hit the shields to make the grinding noise i heard. but now my concern is twofold since the noise has seemed to stop. Do i really need the heat shields on the car? they were barely hanging on as is and 4 bolts kind of decided to turn to dust on me when i was taking them off. and question two is with a crooked abs ring would it cause a problem or should i just leave it there the way it is (the axle was replaced by my friend three years ago)

The shields are there to keep foreign crap from getting into the brakes and from brakes dust flying into your parts. I'm upgrading to 6th gen brakes so I'm removing mine anyway. But that is strange, you should have taken pictures.

thats the wierd thing, the brake shields i left on because of that but the shields over the exhaust pipe shielding the tunnel and parking brake cables i had to take off because they were about to fall off and a few bolts kinda decided to turn to rusty dust. so now i cant figure out what else it could be. i have a picture of a crooked abs ring that i found (that i plan to fix next weekend) but other than that i have no idea.

so i was under the car and i saw this, the abs ring is crooked going into the hub but its on the driver side and i hear the noise on the passenger side which looks like its inplace. would the abs ring be scraping against the inside of the hub on turns when the axle flexes? has anyone heard of that before?

the car does not have abs but i keep hearing that it doesnt matter for the axles and cars without abs. is that true?

Mine did the same thing and it ended up breaking my ABS sensor. Not sure, I also saw this picture.
