Oil leaking into exhaust.

Hey guys. Im lost. I have oil leakin into the exhaust. When i start the car n it runs for about 5 minutes it starts smoking. When i look under theres oil bubbling in/on flex pipe n heat shields around the piping. Now The owner before me installed the valve covers gaskets and on the rear valve cover he put the O-rings on backwards so when the car was running there was a constant flow of oil down the back of the motor I assumed it was from that. So I installed new valve covers and O-rings and it doesn't leak anymore I sprayed the motor top and bottom with engine gunk. It's still smokes and bubbles from the flex pipe and heat shields so I feel like something is leaking oil from inside the motor into the exhaust. But cannot figure it out. Motor has 172000 and no coolant in the oil so head gasket seems ok. Please help.

Dud you just get done with your cleaning project?

All the oily nasty stuff might have oozed lower down on the engine. From there it might be dripping onto the exhaust manifold. The clue is that the engine starts smoking after 5 minutes. It would take about that long to liquify the crud to the point when it starts to drip.

Well the think is. Nothing drips. Just bubbling coming out the crack of the flex pipe and heat shields. I dont wanna leave it running bc if the amount of smoke. I dont wanna risk lightin up in the yard lol.

I re read your post.

I thought that you miss typed . I thought you meant onto the exhaust.

It now appears that you mean that the engine itself
Is leaking into the exhast.

Does the exhaust smell like oil or antifreeze?

Is the sole white, grey, or blueish?

Are you looking coolant or engine oil faster than normal?

Im not losing oil or coolant. There not mixing. Smells like dirty oil lol. And the smoke is very faint so grey. Not coming out of the pipe its coming from the flex n heat shields up out of the engine bay.

I'm just guessing...

You cleaned the engine, and some of the grease found its way into the flex pipe. It looks like a woven material. This might act like a sponge for the grease. The grease might start to smoke when the exhaust gets hot enough.

I would idle the car for some time, like 15 min. If grease is the cause, it might burn off by then.
