95 96 rpm problems

Second tach to go bad. I no its very common. Has anyone found a permanent or good solution to this. If not Should i just hook up aftermarket tach instead of dealing with replacing it all the time.

Your assumption about them breaking all the time is incorrect.

I have driven mine for 10 years and have not had a problem.

the teach and Speedo do have a problem which can easily be solved with a soldering iron.

they are screwed into the instrument panel. the screws act as grounds or carry current. the solder connections on each side of the screws can crack front vibration over time. melting the solder and maybe adding a tiny bit of solder often fixes the problem.

Tried resodering both of them. Nothing changed sadly. What is your suggestion with getting another one. And 95 96 97?

Recently my cluster was giving me problems , i tightned all the screws cleaned contacts nothing seemed to work. Until i swapped out the cluster plate on the 96 and it worked. Nissan still sells them. Looks like this, 97 is the same as 96 just with new look.

This cluster plate is from 98-99 it is different. You need one from a 96 similar to the pic i posted. Im not saying this will fix your problem. This worked for me. Even after fixing the problem i still swapped in the 97 odometer.
