Tranny doesnt wanna shift it almost redlines then slams into gear or if i let off the gas at redline it shifts. Also kind of ruff putting it into drive n reverse. Car has 171xxx. Motor mounts fine. My rpm gauge wont work tried multiple other gauges still didnt work. Maybe related? Anyway at this point idc about the gauge. Whats going on with the tranny guys? No way shes toast already.

 

Your RPM doesn't work? Never heard of that. May be sensor or relay related. Assuming it's auto?

I had times where in cool or cold weather I would be stuck in 1st gear until it'd slam into second gear at 4000 RPM. Not good. A couple flush and fills and long distance driving cleared that up.

 

does the o/d light up multiple times on start up? have you tried the TCM self diagnosis under the Check engine diagnosis forum? Trans fluid color and level?

 

It is auto. It flashes 16 times on start up. Guessing its because of the rpm signal not working. Havent done diag bc my chiltons fsm does have the how to for tranny diag. N fluid still red but im gonna change that n filter this week bc the fluid to me seems runny. Not very thick like usual. What kind of tranny fluid do yall use?

 

95-97
1. Start engine and warm to normal operating temp with O/D off.
2. Turn ignition swith to off postiton wait 5 sec.
3. Turn ignition switch to the ACC position.
4. Put O/D to ON.
5. Move shifter to P, turn ignition on but don't start engine.
6. The OD light should come on for about 2 secs.
a. if light does not come on somthing is wrong with the trans. computer.
b. if light comes on proceed to no 7.
7. Turn ignigton key to off.
8. Turn ignition key to on, don't start engnie.
9. Move shift lever to D, trun ignition to off.
10. Put O/D switch to off position.
11. Turn ignition off.
12. Put O/D to off, turn ignition ON wait 2sec and move shifter to the 2 position.
13. Put O/D to on, move shifter to 1 position.
14. Put O/D to off, depress accelerator all the way to floor and release.
15. The computer is now in output mode and will start displaying the codes.

So after i finish it all nothing flashes the light stays on. It come in after the first steps so i proceed to number 7 n finish n after i push pedal in all the way nothing happens.

 

And i feel like the instructions are confusing. How are u gonna put it in park when it starts out in park and stuff.and u cant put it in drive without pushing the brake. Either way i tried it a million times n each time the light comes on for two second so i proceed to finish n when i let go of the pedal nothing happens. Is there something wrong with the instructions or something u have to do thats not said

 

Ive tried it once and got it to work. Ill try it again see what may have happened. Im still at work till noon.
