Strange humming noise and smelling hot.

There is a different noise coming from my engine the last few days. It is in the right front area by the power steering reservoir. Then the engine smells really hot. Sometimes smoke will come out of the hood. Anyway, here is what I have done so far. I checked all fluids and everything is fine. Just curious if anyone has any suggestions of what to look for or... any information would be appreciated as I am stumped???

Does the belt tensioner make a whirring noise when it is going out?

Can you remove the serpentine belt that runs the A/C compressor and alternator?

You can rule out a noise from the tensioner pulley, the A/C bearing, and the alternator by removing the large serpentine belt and spinning the pulleys on those parts by hand.

Since the water pump is powered by the timing chain, you can run the car run for a couple of minutes with the belt off to see if the noise disappears. I've seen more cases of the A/C pulley bearing becoming noisy than any other belt driven component.
