VLSD questions
Hi everyone,
Hoping someone can clear up some questions I had.
I have the RE4FO4W but have seen this classified as RE4FO4V on AMSOIL and other product websites when I have entered my car info when searching for a full synthetic ATF, but assuming this is the same VLSD , or am I wrong?
Also, knowing that the difference between the 1998 Infiniti I30 and Touring is the Viscous Limited slip differential. I am surprised to see that the two share the same ATF classification of Matic D or Dextron III. I would assume some form of additive would have been necessary due to more moving , but also extend the life of the compared to a non-VLSD due to more pressure and requirement for higher viscosity for the VLSD to work properly.
Thank you!

Simply put, when you try to spin out on a snow-covered or wet street, to both front wheels pull?
I have a VLSD in my 98 GLE that I've been using the same fluid that I use in my I-30 non-VLSD for years without issue.
The main thing on a Nissan manual transmission from that era is to use a GL4 lubricant. I would look to keep the recommended fluid fresh over trying to change fluid type.
Here's some information on how to decode the VIN from the readme section.
How do I decode my VIN?

So how do I tell if my car is Cali or Fed spec?
Raise your hood. Look for a shiny metal identification tag fastened to the passenger side of firewall. The top row is the Vehicle Identification Number, starting with J. The second row is model information. The first five characters are BLHUL. The 12th character is the destination:
N = Canada
V = California
U = US, not California
