self diagnostic screw on ecu fell inside ecu

Has anyone else have the ECU diagnostic screw fall off into the ECU? I think it is on the left counterclockwise position. This happened because as I turned the screw the CEL would not flash and stay solid. So i assumed I was not locking it far enough then it broke and fell in. Do I need a new ECU?

Why bother with the screw?

Code readers are available for less than 20 bucks on amazon and ebay.

I recently bought a BAFX scanner. It plugs into the obd 2 port. It connects to my phone with bluetooth.
the scanner gives me much more informaton than a code reader, let alone what little turning the screw on the ecu would (not) tell you.. I paid 22 bucks on amazon.

100%

I bought this one

Amazon Amazon

I use it with the free Carista app to read and clear codes, it's great.

You don't need a new ECU. The "screw" that broke off can be re-soldered on if you want to do it. But getting a code reader of some type is easier to deal with as the others have said.
