Very intermitent rough idle

Occasionly my 95 has a rough idle with shaking motor etc. Goes away quickly and runs perfectly.Bothers my wife fearing she’ll be stranded.Like any intermittent problem don’t know where to start looking.

Does it light the cel?

There are inexpensive scanners on the market now which have wireless Bluetooth connection to your phone. They can track histirical codes.

I got mine from Amazon. Made by BAFX. 22 bucks for android, slightly more for Apple.

Are there any similar conditions the stumble occurs?

I'm thinking that you could find what the historical code is, or plug the scanner when the problem occurs. Such as when cold, or if the car is under heavy load, or or gas tank near empty, etc.

Similar conditions

Seems to appear and disappear after the car has been run long enough to reach operating temp.We have been experiencing major temperature swings from lows in the 30’s to highs near 70.

mine does the stumble a bit at idle after it is warmed up. never dies. and never can pin down when it will happen. Outside Air Temp does not seem to matter.
about 10 years ago I cleaned out the IACV when it was off while I did the rear valve cover gaskets and that seemed to help but the roughness at idle came back a couple years ago.
may pop it off and give it a good cleaning again.

Seems like your coolant temperature sensor may be going out. It's not too hard to replace.

I agree with the engine control temperature sensor.
But rather than outight replacement, I would clean the contacts on the existing one, and those in he connector. I say this because the problem is intermittant for now, and appears to be temperature related. If the problem also comes and goes along with changes in humidy or after it rains, assume oxidized contacts.
