Hello from New Zealand once again. You guys helped me out a little while back with problems ive been having with the motor missing and not running right. I pretty much fixed it by cleaning the mass air flow sensor and new plugs with a new air filter. but the problem has come back once again. I have replaced the MAF with a new one. That has made an improvement but it is still not right. its using up fuel like there is no tomorrow as well. the motor is idling 1100rpm and im pretty sure thats because the fast idle cam is not doing its job and its not letting the motor slow down. now over here in NZ this model doent support obd2 and doesnt have a port for it. Ive brought a Nissan Consult port reader with software to use. Ive got it all hooked up and working but ive got no idea if what is good or bad. Ive taken a screen shot of it idling if you guys can take a look for me and see if you can see anything that might be of interest?
One thing i did notice was the O2 sensor is all over the place..both of them are jumping around like nothing.
I dont have any check engine light coming on but i looked at the faults and there was a knock sensor error which i cleared but it came back.
Any time the engine doesn't run right, you will have the knock sensor code, so don't worry about it. It will go away when the real problem is resolved.
O2 sensor readings should be stable, not jumping around. The upstream sensor (the one Nissan calls S1 or Sensor 1) will cause bad gas mileage if bad. So I think you have a bad O2 sensor. The downstream sensor (or S2) won'r affect gas mileage. It may not be bad, it may only be reacting to the upstream sensor.
Thanks for that. I will look at getting a new replacement sensor. Now what about my high idle? what can i do about the fast idle cam? ive already tried pulling it out without much success. all i managed to do was pull out the center pin out that pushes the cam, the main body is firmly stuck in place. I thought i would clean it and put it back in but couldnt get it out so i just put it all back together again and set it back up and lined up the marks as per the service manual says. That worked well for probably 5 minutes then went back to the high reves again.
Ive done some more work on the motor this morning. i think i can rule out the FIC because i got a screwdriver and manually moved the cam off the throttle and it didnt make any difference to the idle speed. ive turnned the idle screw adjustment right the way in and it did nothing so im guessing its something to do with that? i migt pull that apart and see if i can clean that. I will post the results shortly.
I adjusted it to that and did the reset and that seems to have done the trick, she runs alot smoother now and the idle is where it should be. How long it lasts is anyones guess. Ill update after the weekend and let you know how it got on.
well i dont have to wait over the weekend to see how it went, I can let you know right now. Its right back to how it was before i started. High idle and running like ****.
IACV ? Idle air control valve? yes it does. Ive already stripped that down and cleaned it and put it all back together. it did nothing. not sure what the fuel pressure is i have no way of measuring it.
After you cleaned the IACV, did you set the idle screws per the FSM?
Suggest borrowing or buying a fuel pressure guage.

ive had another look at the car this morning. plugged it up to my software again to check. I warmed the motor up and the TPS was reading almost 0.6V which was high since i set it to .44. So i popped the bonnet and looked at the FIC and it was still sitting on the cold position so i manually moved it off the cam and the idle cam right down to normal. it felt very spongy and as soon as i let it go it moved right back to the cold position. So im positive that the high idle problem was two things. The TPS not set correctly and a faulty FIC.
Now, how do i get the FIC out? i tried this at the start but could only manage to get the pin out that pushes the cam. the rest of it was stuck in the housing, I removed the clip holding it all in but it wouldn't move
I do care on what you think Rit, I realize this is a free forum and getting free advice and i am very grateful for all the advice i have gotten.
Jayboyday is in titled to say he doesnt like the title of my topic, im in titled to say i dont really care what he thinks. I was asking for advice on my car not the title of the topic.
