how much is ac compressor for a 1999 nissan maxima
Hey guys, I have recently become a victim of the notorious a/c failure on my 99 nissan maxima.
I thought I could tough out the summer without it but the humidity is to much.
Mechanic quoted over $800 to repair...outrageous!!!!!
What's the price of your maxima ac compressor ? $80 or $800?
Any help or a point in the right direction to find one would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

What brand parts were you quoted, and what all was included in that price?
If your compressor failed, then you'll need not only a new compressor but also a dryer/receiver/"liquid tank" (3 different names for the same thing). And a Flush to remove compressor comtaminants. And equivalent amount of oil removed replaced. Might as well replace the valve cores too. Then Evac and recharge + cost of 1.4 lbs of refrigerant. Did I miss anything?
Thats a lot of labor and parts - and the shop doesn't want you coming back warranty, so they won't take any short cuts.
i was quoted $160 for "AC Service" by a big shop only earlier today - just to get mine in the door. I presume that would include any necessary evac and charge (but not the refrigerant) - and that was just to replace the low side valve (which is all that's wrong with mine - it still has a charge etc).
I think $800 for all parts and labor for all those things you need sounds about right unfortunately. Professional AC service is a capital-intensive undertaking.
I am interested to hear other opinions about Value.

Why not buying nissan maxima a/c compressor from Amazon or other reliable online store ?
Here is my experience:
I have a 01 Nissan maxima with 3.0L engine.
I bought a maxima ac compressor from Hexautoparts.com - very good deal (lower price and higher quality ) and it delivered free to one of my local repair shop, and spent $100 for installing ac compressor including ac clutch (some stores will charge more). Worked out well. Saved a ton of $$. It just costs me $200 in total for a new ac compressor and installing on my car.Hence, going to do this from now on for all my vehicles.
$$ saved on shipping alone makes it worth the install cost.

First, there's no such thing as the "notorious" AC failure in the '99 model.
Second, best of luck to you on this repair.
Typically ... meaning ~ 99.97% of compressor failures ... create collateral issues that must be addressed in order for the repaired system to function properly and reliably.
It doesn't appear that, in order to address your compressor failure, you did anything except replace the failed compressor.
Again I say, best of luck to you.
It's actually a good thing you spent $104 as you will likely need to replace it again pretty soon.
