where to find hanshin/ mitsbishi coils?

i thought i had the car running right and started her up this morning and she was sputtering and when i hit the gas i get a " pop". i remember testing the coils and 2 in the front that i pulled didn't affect the idle and at start up i'm getting exhaust smell and a little gas. i thought it was fixed cause i had no c/e light on and on monday she was running fine. arrrrggggg, so, hanshin or mitsubishi and where to get?? i know rock auto, but is anyone doing a sale or discount on them right now> link please, thanks

Hitachi coils are the ones I got when I had to get them replaced when I had bogging/misfire issues. Over 2 years later no problems. Got it off Amazon for $350 or so for a full set of brand new coils (6)

Many of us find perfectly good ones at the local wrecking yard.

with my luck lately, i'm not yanking any coils off a motor that's been sitting in a yard for god knows how long. if i can get them cheap enough, then maybe i'll try a couple from a local yard today after work.
and josh, that brand is not oem, the 2 i stated in the thread title are. i have 2 failed hitachi coils on my engine now. a little over a year old.

You sure your "pop" and fuel smell aren't due to failing injector(s)?

Anyway, Rock Auto sells the Hitachis ... both cylinder banks.

Front bank are $40.00/ea., rear are $35.00/ea.

I was told Hitachi were the OEM ones, even the shop wanted to use them when I paid for a diagnose of the misfire so they could straight up tell me what it was.

They were recommending Hitachi (or another same name Hanshin) because it was OEM. They wanted $1000 for the job for all 6. (The parts were about $800 for the same brand!! and labor was around $200) Because shops buy the parts wholesale! I declined the offer and just bought them off amazon myself instead and did it for $350. I even tried Junkyard coils and they were no good. Because again like you mentioned that who knows how long those coils have been sitting.

I'd also look into rebuilding your injectors, as that could be the case as turbolink mentioned. Cheaper than coils for sure! Do all 6 not just one or two. Coils are not cheap at all regardless what car it is... If it was injectors, it would be around $200 for all 6. Much cheaper.

yep, p0300 refers to a random misfire, if it were a injector it would have a number on the end telling you which cylinder is failing.

not necessarily........bad injector(s) have been known to throw the generic P0300 as well.

Misfires are caused by...

-Bad spark plugs (cheapest to replace)
-Bad Injectors (2nd cheapest)
-Coils (Can get a little pricey)
-Worse a blown head gasket.

Any of these can cause to trigger P0300 as wizard mentioned.

based on my experience with this car, i had an intake leak for several months and read that that can cause coil failure because it was over-heating the coil and wore it out pre-maturely. i know how this car runs with a bad injector as opposed to a bad ignition coil, i smell a ton of gas and the car has no power at all whereas with the bad ig/coil i unplugged it and i saw no change in 2 of the front 3 coils and the max sputters along and i smell more exhaust then gas. cause i is smart like that, ( experience ) i'll let you after i replace the 2 front when they get here on monday. i got 2 hitachi coils josh, good price on them too.

Yes intake leaks at the intake manifold gasket cause cause the engine to defect a misfire....2.4L Altima(s) were notorious for this since the intake manifold wasn't supported with a brace the #1 cylinder would Misfire it's behind off causing folks to chase their tails to find the problem!

I was thinking about you...I still have six 115k OEM '98 i30 coils on the shelf that were ill-advisedly replaced (they weren't bad after all).

Lemme know if your recent purchase doesn't work out.
