Installed new starter - NO Morning Groan!

Just installed a new Prestolite $116.00 starter yesterday. Now when I start the car in the morning its so nice an quite - No morning groan. I opened up the old starter and sure enough it was all dried up. One of these days I'll regrease it so I have a spare.

Where did you get a starter for $116?? And there was no core charge? I just put in a new starter myself. Cost was $150 from Kragen and an extra $65 core charge.

I'll look up the email and phone #. Its a guy out of Vineland NJ. He also sells these units on ebay. Cost is $107 plus shipping. YES, NO CORE CHARGE. Other guys on the forum have bought this unit. It works fine. by the way if anyone wants my old unit I'll sell it for $45 (so you don't have to trade in your old starter).

I havent changed it yet...But I heard the back bolt is the hardest to get out. If you have a CAI the install will be easy...Take off...Put new one on...Connect wires...done in 10 min or less

Its easy bro. I used a 1/2 inch drive and both bolts came off easy. Get a haynes. It not hard at all.

I re-greased the stock starter on my wife's '95 two weeks ago and it has worked great ever since. It was about $4 for a tub of hi-temp synthetic grease. The lower/rear bolt (17 mm) was really really stuck. After trying WD-40 with no luck, the local NAPA guy recommeneded something called P-Blaster. I sprayed it on and let it sit for about 5 minutes, sprayed 1 more time and the bolt came right out. The sucker was much longer than I expected so I don't think even this miricle juice really got to the threads at the tip of the bolt, but it did a great job at unfreezing the head of it.

Just my 2 cents, but regreasing really works so if you've still got your old starter save it as a spare. The motor on ours was full of crude and the three little gears were really gummed up. Just de-grease and lightly coat them again. Too much grease will re-create the problem faster.

Good Luck
