Thumping in cabin

I was driving my newly bought 98' SE tonight, and noticed something odd. When travelling at lower speeds, it almost feels as if you are driving over wires/cables drawn across the road. It's kinda like a dut dut, dut dut, dut dut . . . and is definetly proportional to the speed at which I am travelling. These thumps are very small, and I didn't notice them at all when driving at normal city and highway speeds. It wasn't until I was driving in residential areas that I noticed the thumping.

I did the search function, and noticed many complaining about vibrations, especially in the steering wheel, and especially at highway speeds, but neither of these really apply.

The thumping I am getting is being transmitted to the chassis, and you can practically hear it from the ceiling of the cabin.

I know there are many possible culprits, most likely, out of balance wheels, then things like worn tie-rods. But I just thought I'd throw this out to the board, before I go back to the dealership I bought the car from.

I am having a similar problem in my car and at first it was diagnosed as the CV joint, which scared me because it is expensive. I had it checked out and it turns out to be some worn bushings on my rear axle, that have detiorated due to my driving style . They are about 15 dollars and can be replaced easily. Hope this helps.

You didn't properly tie the person down in the trunk.

I think duct tape work good for that... just bind his hands and feet and don't forget the mouth.

You may have flat spotted tires. Did you do any ebrake drifts or lock the brakes up?

ever think about checking the road.....

no... seriously, you shouldn't hear anything associated with the cv joints except for when you are turning. I would go with the brushings...probably worth $15 anyways.

i would check the tires as mentioned by the other members. my old accord had some firestones and it made that noise. when i jacked up the car to inspect the tires i found "bubbles" on the tread . when i replaced them with michelins the noises never came back. bad tires were the definite culprit in my case.
