Clutch pedal stuck to the floor
Clutch pedal stuck to the floor
My clutch pedal shoots to the floor whenever I put any pressure on it and I can pull it back up with my foot but it seems like the pedal has no pressure. I can shift into every gear just fine but my car won't start because of this issue. What do I do?
If you find the clutch fluid level low in the reservoir under the hood, you can refill it and begin pumping the clutch to bleed the system. You will feel the clutch pedal pressure starting to come back as you pump the clutch pedal after refilling the fluid.
Check for any visible leaks between the firewall and the transmission. It may help you identify the faulty component. I just replaced a list of parts to resolve this problem on my Max. As I was driving my clutch started to feel strange until the pedal stuck to the floor and would not return. The stuck pedal and dirty fluid made me think it was the clutch master cylinder. I replaced that and nothing changed. Next I replaced the slave cylinder. After that the clutch kinda worked just enough to move the car around the driveway, but not normal operation. Then I noticed the rubber hydraulic line closest to the slave cylinder was leaking at both ends. I ordered a new lower line and went ahead and ordered the upper line since it was really cheap and easy to replace at the same time. I bled the system and now have a functional clutch again.
All of the parts can be found for cheap, and are easy to replace. The master cylinder is the hardest because of the limited space between the firewall and strut tower, but still manageable. The slave cylinder and fluid lines are easily accessible once you move the air intake out of the way. Below is what I paid in the last couple weeks for all the parts from RockAuto.
Exedy clutch master cylinder $20.79
Exedy clutch slave cylinder $7.18
Centric lower line $25.79
Centric upper line $6.30
