Alternative options for draining transmission

Hi, I have just gotten my transmission fluid in the mail and am ready to drain the old stuff out and replace it with the new. I located the drain plug with the help out some members here, but I’m unable to remove the bolt as I cannot fit a socket on there and the bolt seems it will strip out before it loosens (corners are already rounding). Is there any alternative options for draining the fluid, or is there a way to fit a socket on there. Thanks

There really is No other way. That will guarantee you get all the Fluid Out. Clean up the area and spray a few times with some PB Blaster spray to possibly loosen any corrosion. Re attempt this with a Brand New Socket and Pull Harder, the Bolt wont Break.

Do you have the correct size socket for the drain bolt?

Only other option is to drop the entire pan.

Lots of people used to say remove the neutral safety switch. Don't. It will break and cost more money, time and headaches.

Maybe you can suck/pump out the fluid through the fill plug.

OP has a manual transmission. If it was an automatic just pull the hose off the cooler.

I’m not able to fit a socket on the bolt as there is a bracket in the way preventing me from doing so. So I had to try to use my 12mm wrench, but it seems to be just rounding the corners of the bolt. I’ll take a picture/video when I get back from school.

I ground some material off my 12mm box end wrench to fit better.

Try an offset wrench.

yeah, it’s rounding the corners of the nut. I know that if I try any harder it’s going to completely round the nut and I definitely won’t be able to loosen it then.

I just removed the Vehicle Speed Sensor.

The oil came out very quickly.

Then I replaced the sensor.

Done.

The speed sensor is on top. Do you mean the reverse/ neutral safety? You got it out without breaking it?!

Doesn’t have to be these brands.

Doesn’t have to be these sets.

Just pointing out that tools are available to address this very need.

They are likely even available for loan-out or rent at your local parts store.

I haven't looked at my transmission for some time.

As I recall there is a black plastic cylinder about 1.5 inches in diameter. It is mounted in the lower front of the transmission. It has one wire connected to it.
Its attached to tge transmission with a bolt or two.

I removed the wire and the bolts. I removed the sensor.
All the fluid came out at once. It's best to slowly remove the sensor so the fluid gushes out more slowly.

I believe the head on the socket wrench on a 3/4' socket wrench will fit in there perfect.. try it out.. I don't know the actual socket size but I know what mentioned will work. I think this might be for the fill hole plug.. can't recall.

and I have a Manuel transmission.. do not try from the neutral switch like said above, it will definitely brake.

tools are supreme to the job!!
and almost always,. If you like the tool keep it for future jobs. If you don’t have a use for it later, pass it on.

id go with the offset wrench then sockets

yeah, it has yet to round the corners yet, but I can feel it starting too. I bought a cheap 12mm wrench with a completely closed end that I’m just gonna file down to fit correctly.
