Hello all.
I've recently purchased a 1998 maxima (4th gen Australia) it's a bit of a warrior (been bashed about a bit, but still managed to secure a place in my cold dead heart)
It came with a single ignition key. I'm curious as to whether this model has remote central locking and if so, what the fob might look like?
I'm aware that I'm ignoring the important things such as....
- an oil leak that has somehow disappeared after a degreasing or 2.
- air conditioning that requires a re-gas.... its Australia and its definitely summer here. Not good.
- suspension that is softer than my grip on reality.
- one of the rear doors doesn't work on central locking randomly.
Other than these minor issues, fantastic car. I look forward to rectifying these slight problems with or without your help, but will definitely appreciate the help if offered.
Cheers everyone! I appreciate any insight given.
Dan.
That's right, its in a different location for your market. Once you get a remote or 2 there is a simple procedure to program them to your car. One last thing to double check, in the trunk on the right side near the antenna, there should be a keyless entry control module.
Congratulations on the purchase. Regarding your last point, you may have a failing door lock actuator.
I installed some universal actuators to work alongside the faulty ones, and it has been holding up perfectly for over three years now. I created a how-to thread here:
Thanks Crime, I've a vague future plan of looking into that when I upgrade the oem speakers (there isn't a speaker in the rear door but I'll probably be in a door trim removing kind of mood). Maybe I'm a bit optimistic but I'm hoping for a loose connection or possibly a dose of wd40 to fix it but your solution seems rather economical and well detailed, thanks for the link to it.

No problem. It's worth a shot; start with the smaller stuff and if no good then look into the actuators. Keep us posted
Hello all,
I've recently returned home from another 10 day swing and the new fob was here, it took nearly a solid minute to program it and test it. Worked first time. Really appreciate the help. Thankyou.
There was a minor issue of someone mildly rear ending my car on my way out to work.... to misquote Maxwell Smart 'she hit me by this much', no one was hurt and cable ties held the bumper bar up rather admirably, dealing with her insurance company wasn't ideal though, and I look forward to not dealing with them again. I jury rigged a trailer light up to get home and the actual tail light replacement turned up today.
