99 Maxima starting issues
99 Maxima starting issues
So I have been having a new problem with my 99 maxima. when going to the store etc... when I am leaving the store the car will not start in P.
it has done this several times now and it getting annoying and is getting worse. Putting the shifter in N and back to P it will start and it will also start in N. it will also start in P also. its a random occurrence. Some how it has not done this in my driveway yet. I have googled this issue to try to learn about it and have found out that it is the inhibitor switch. However some people say it is on the transmission and some are screaming and saying it is under the center console at the shifter location. to fix this problem can someone shed some light as to how I can fix this and how difficult it is to do.

It’s called the park/neutral safety switch or park/neutral position switch and it’s mounted to the transmission.
You need to get yourself a copy of the FSM and/or get yourself a Haynes Manual or the like.
