98 Maxima - Positive battery cable (red box)

98 Maxima - Positive battery cable (red box)

I'm sure everyone's familiar. As you may be able to see. The end of the red boxes' connector is hardly hanging on. I have to wedge it between, as seen in the image, and tighten it down. The other wiring seen was being used to test something not related.
My question is about removing, bypassing and deleting the red box. Can I not just cut the 2 plugs back splice them in with new battery cable and terminal connectors straight to the post? What is the best way to get into this?
Any advice is appreciated 🤙

Yes that can be done, I've done it many times. Just note that it's actually a fusible link.

BTW the part number is 24110-44U00 and is over $200 unfortunately.

Cut off the plugs, crimp on ring terminals, and use either newer style Nissan terminal, part number 24340-7F003, or something similar from the parts store.
