I have a '97 Maxima GLE that has served me well. I've driven almost all of the 525,000 miles on it (original engine - never rebuilt), and my wife thinks it is time to get something newer. While it still runs very strong and can still pass the California DMV smog test, with that kind of mileage, there isn't much resale value left. It is still my daily driver with 250 mile commutes every so often.
I was wondering if anyone can suggest any contacts at Nissan to see if their marketing or engineering people may have an interest in it. Sadly, it will go to the recycling yard otherwise. I would think that Nissan may want to see how this lasted so long as it did. The motor is built like a tank, and should be dead three times over by now. Running Mobil 1 oil definitely saved it from the three overheats it had. Being located in Southern Calif, the body has held up well without any rust.
The wrecking yard seems so unfitting for this road warrior. I'd be interested in comments or suggestions with what I might do with it.
everyone knows a maintained vq30 can go that long. no reason to scrap it though. surely someone will pay more than the 3-400 a scrap yard will give you for it.
Thanks for the replies. KBB values it at $925, so I'll check if the local marketplace puts any value on it. PYP says they'll pay $400. The difference is not a lot if there is any private party negotiating. I'll explore it further. Thanks for the suggestions.

a running driving car up here in washington pretty much bottoms out at 1500. the fact that it passes smog? i cant see how it would go for anything under 1k down there.
Man post some pictures first. We need to see that tank. Also since you are on SoCal, you might want to look into the car retirement program that either the state or federal offers. I think they pay out 1500 to "retire" it. I argue that it is a better alternative than sending it to a scrapyard for 400. Unless its an LKQ, I call dibs LOL
Car markets are garbage right now and people are after older running/driving cars, even with that mileage if it's running/driving you should be able to get $1500-$2k minimum
But coming from experience, if you have the space just park it and keep it as a spare vehicle. Having a spare running/driving vehicle laying around has saved me many times
Wow nice and that's a legend in the making best bet is to keep it as a back up the auto market and the economy is poor right now the bone yard and insurance and ect will try to give you little to nothing it's better to keep it.
