After market CV axle options
After market CV axle options
Hi everyone,
My stock drivers side non limited slip CV axle for my automatic GLE needs to be replaced. The inner boot is ripped after. It's the original boot astonishingly.
Anyway, can anyone share which replacement brands to avoid ?
We don't have many options left lol.
Which brand has worked out for everyone thus far?
Is the TRQ brand a safe bet?
I'm considering a GSP brand from Summit.
Your input is appreciated.

if the axle isnt damaged youre better off replacing the boot. OEM axles are better than aftermarket options. from my experience with a few problem cars in the shop aftermarket new axles are usually the same part in different brand boxes so if youre going to replace them just get whatever is easiest to find
They don't come with the seals so you can use whichever you prefer. So use HIGH Rated from customer experience seals. Me? I'm an OEM Nissan fan, if they are still available.
All the aftermarket ones are trash. You will get a couple years and then outer boots will tear. I have had my Max ~10 years and put about 130k on it (I am at 210). I have done LH 5 times and RH 3 times. All different brands, same results. I am not lowered or anything, maybe just bad luck and crappy NYC roads.
I would get whichever one gives you a lifetime warrantee because you will be trapped in a replacement cycle anyway. Definitely save your OE axle, maybe you can find someone to re-man it someday. If possible, that is your best bet. Years ago I think a site called raxles used to reman ours, but they haven't for years.
If you are careful, you won't need to change your seals, just don't let the axle hang down and put pressure on them. If they leak and you need to then only get OEM if you can. I have had aftermarket ones leak. Make sure you seat it good, it can be difficult, you may have to rig up a large socket and some extensions to tap it in good and even.

My 03 maxima has 200K miles. I’ve owned it for 20 years since 2006 and put 185K miles on it. I only had to replace both the driver side and passenger side CV once during that time and I used CARDONE. They seem to last for me. Perhaps living in the sunny south eastern states with no snow or road salt helps to keep the CV from failing. Not sure why I am so lucky.
