Burning rubber smell

Burning rubber smell

checked the belts they look fine..ran fingers on outside to check for cracks on both outer belts.......tension is tight....does the 97 se have a belt or chain.....? when should the belts me maintanced...mileage wise....any help will be apprciated.....

Maximas have timing chains. They should last the life of the car if properly maintained. As for belts, they should be changed every 60K miles (don't remember no. of months)

Did you post this because of burning rubber smell cos it wasn't in the message itself?

well

i did do a little burn out then started smelling the smell...but it still smells like burnt rubber now.....and its been 3 hours.....i am changing all my belts sat.....just in case

Any chance it got in your heating vents ( the burnout you did) and still is smelling up the car when you turn on heat etc?

Check you exhaust. Maybe you ran over a plastic bag or something and it melted on. Just a thought.
