fuel pump

Just a quick question. Where would be a good place that I could get an upgraded fuel pump? and about how much do they run?

Thanks

You can probably get a Walbro pump for the DSMs... Some people are having some problems tuning them it seems...

Do you really need one? are you using 100+hp shot of NOS or something?

No.... I'm just wondering about how much that would cost and if it would be a worth while mod for potentially getting a supercharger/NOS. Or would I be better off with just upgrading the injectors?

I have a Walbro 255 lph. It is definitely worth getting if you are running higher boost 100 shot nos or S/C

I am having some problems with mine running stock cos the pressure is much higher than stock. I would do it closer to when you decide to run boost or do it together. The only problem I have seen with running with stock is that idle is 900 rpm instead of 650. I have tried adjusting it but it comes back to 900 again after a day or two of driving.

Ok....well let me ask this then... Is there any way I can adjust the fuel pressure on the stock fuel pump? Honestly I haven't looked but I thought I'd be a fool for five minutes rather than be a fool for a lifetime for not asking.

Adjust fuel pressure via aftermarket fuel pressure regulator.

I think that this will allow you to limit maximum fuel pressure. I don't think it allows you to boost pressure. If it does allow you to boost pressure, your flow goes down ... just like when you squeeze a hose pipe, pressure goes up, throughput goes down.

The more important question here is the sustained throughput for a given pressure. That's what upgrading your fuel pump is all about so as not to run lean.

I don't think there is any alternative other than buying a pump (either internal or external).

That's kinda what I was thinking.... but before I do that I need to get some measurements as far as if I am running lean or not.. (probably should have done that before I asked this) but I just wanted to see what could be done if I am. Is there a special guage I can use to check on that?

There are a couple of things you can use:

1. A/F ratio meter. These are usually not very accurate. They run from your O2 sensors. Unless you buy an expensive one with its own sensor, I wouldn't bother.

2. EGT, is probably the preferred choice. Depending on where you put the probe, you can tell if you are running lean from the temp reading.

Nope..not for his purpose. He's NA. If he's planning on raising fuel pressure up to 100 psi on a stock pump. Yes, the LPH will go down on a stock pump. If he's doing anywhere less than 75psi, the stock pump will still flow enough.

Dude, you're right, but read his second post. it talks about S/C and NOS etc. Like I said in my first (or second) post, I would wait till he's ready to actually put on the S/C on NOS. If he wants to increase fuel pressure with stock pump and no boost, that's OK....but WHY? I had thought he meant increasing fuel pressure for NOS/ S/C with stock pump.
