Step by step Nitrous question
Step by step Nitrous question
I know at some point I need an ECU upgrade to run N2o safely. Can I safely run Nitrous (50 shot) with just the nitrous kit and the windows switch on a 97 SE with 75000 miles? I would like to buy the kit and window switch, Then add the bottle heater, blanket, and remote opener. Next step I would like to add my gauges and fuel pump. After that the ECU and then bump up to 70.
Any flaws in my tyhinking?
Thanks
Shawn

Do not upgrade your ECU. Going to an upgraded ECU while running nitrous will result in one thing, BOOM. I do not know exactly why but this has been discussed in the past many times. The ECU remaps the air/fuel ratio and with the addition of NOS, it will be just too much for the engine. Now, if you get the Cattman Nitrous set-up, which includes the wet-kit and the ECU, then that will work, but only for that system. Sorry guy. But for the the NOS set-up, fuel pump, and gauges. Then get an adjustable fuel pressure regulator once above 70, good luck.

to clarify. the standard ECU upgrades get their power from advancing the timing. When you use nitrous you should really retard so avoid detination so if you want an ECU then you want a custom one for your needs. You won't gain power from the ECU but it will help protect your engine.
