HUmming sound from maxima
Hello, I do not know exactly how to describe this weird sound...the best i can say is its a humming kinda sound that seems to be coming from the back. went to a couple of places today they would not look at it until tom, a couple said it could be the wheel bearing? any ideas about this??? how much should i expect to pay? guy said about 200 parts/labor?? oh yeah, the sound seems to come and go.....for the second time today when i filled up my gas tank, the sound went away for a while.....its a 95 max with a bit over 50K miles on it. thanks for any help....

Re: humming
It's been my experience that front wheel bearings are much more likely to fail than rear ones. All the yaw and torque involved in turning. But I suppose anything can fail if/when it feels like it.
To check for a bad wheel bearing, jack up the car so the wheel is dangling a few inches off the ground. Then, put your hands and the 12 & 6 o'clock positions on the wheel. Push and pull the top and bottom of the wheel to see if you can get the wheel/hub assembly to deflect (or move) a little in the top/bottom direction. There shouldn't be any play if the bearings are good.
Did the sound come back after you drove a while (after filling up)? As in, did the sound come back after there was less gas in the tank, thus putting less pressure on the back wheel(s)?
Anyway, good luck.

How many miles does your car have?
It could very well be the wheel bearing.
Ask "190hpKilla"
We were caravaning back from Upstate NY and he signalled to pull over all of the sudden.. He had a humming noise coming from the rear. I sat in the back and he drove it around, turns out it was the rear wheel bearing, he had about 110k miles on it at the time, my best guess so it is very realistic for it to go, especially on a higher milage car.
