my car is in awsome shape it still boots and still drives like new but im jsut wondering if it would be worth it to put like exhaust, intake, cat back, and maybe a supercharger down the road.

I have 188,000 miles on my Max, and I ran my fastest time ever last Spring. No smoke. No leaks. The car has been well-maintained. It runs like a top. I never thought any car could run like this. I see this car running another ten years. And an N2O kit is going on next week.

We have solid and reliable cars as long as we maintain them properly. If you car runs like a dream then why not make it better. Add some performance mods and see how your car reacts, at a worst case scenerio you can sell us whatever parts you don't want

I have 140,000 MILES on mine, and no probs. I would say if you want the mods go for it. The car will go to 300,000 km +.

Cheston has 250,000+ miles and only put his S/C on a little while back. It all depends on what condition your car is in, so you should be fine.

You list NOS in your signature. You haven't put it on yet? Nice to see a car with more miles than mine running like this. I'm inspired! BTW, how do you like the short shifter?

I have everything ready for the N2O install this week, except gauges, which I'll order tomorrow with a request for overnight delivery. I've decided to go with Autometer Ultra-lite gauges for fuel pressure, N2O pressure, and exhaust gas temperature. No A/F meter for my car...

I plan to mount the fuel pressure gauge and the EGT gauge in a dual pod on the A-pillar, and the N2O gauge in my center console (under the lid) with the 4 switches: remote bottle opener switch, arming switch, bottle warmer switch, and purge button. In the meantime, I will have my mechanic begin a professional installation of my system tomorrow. I hope to have all of it on and ready for a test drive by next weekend, if not before then (!).

I like the STS, which accepted my stock shifter ****. The throws are shorter, but be advised, it takes a little more effort to shift than before, too. Also, ensure you lube the linkage at the bottom of the STS (the nylon part) with a gob of white grease during installation, or that sucker is gonna squeeeeek like crazy. By the way, that is a common complaint.

This car is really starting to come together the last couple of months. I went through a brief spell the summer before last, during which time I had to get a new starter, alternator, battery, and drive axles. I thought the sucker was gonna go ahead and die, but it pulled through it all after all. I'm going to keep this car until the wheels fall off, and then give it a Viking funeral.

What?!!!!

Cheston has over 250,000miles on his max?!!!
Are you serious? Wow!

I have 144,800 miles on my max and I have a y-pipe, intake, custom 2.5" exhaust with Apex N1 muffler, and 55shot NITROUS

The VQ engine is basically bullet proof, the only thing you have to worry about is your tranny!
I have Don's VB mod and tranny cooler, helps a lot!

I was considering N02, but many people say it is alot of hassle.

Is it or isn't it?

My car has 162K KMs and I'm just starting

After having my car for a year and a half, I'm starting small and working on some performance mods -- easy bolt-ons that don't affect any movings parts --> Y-Pipe, POP charger, FSTB...etc...

These are easy to install, don't interfere with the actual engine, makes your car breathe better (which means your car is working less hard) and maybe even help it last longer!!!

wow, you guys really have lots of mileage on your maxes, and still holding up great, that's awesome ...i only have 49k on my 97 GLE, which my dad bought brand new back in 97...but this car is driven the least out of all our cars, but now i have it, so some mileage will increase...our 96 I30 on the other hand, close to 90k

Maxima's VQ30DE is among the best V6's out there...
The only thing you have to worry about is your tranny.

i don't think so. BUT, Don in Texas has about 120K (IIRC) or more and he is currently the fastest maxima in the world. It's still a daily driver, but he does run low 12's at the track. oh yeah, it's an auto

I just found out that NOS cars are not allowed to autocross. At a minimum they have to remove the bottle. Well, that saves me THAT hassle As for the STS, my stock **** is starting to look a bit worn, so putting it back on wouldn't be my first choice. Oh, I had intermittant starting problems this last year. Thought it was the starter (every black-hearted mechanic thought so - $$$) Turned out to be the clutch interlock switch, a cheap and easy fix. Bleah.

170,000 km is only 105,600 miles. You should be fine. Although it does depend on how she was maintained. I'll probably misquote DBM but it was something like "Treat it right for the first 100,000 and you'll have an easy second".

I just installed a supercharger on mine w/ 127,000 mi.

Good luck.

With higher mileage like that, did you do a compression and leakdown test before getting the s/c? Darn I want to put one one, but I'm in grad school. That costs enough $$$$$ to buy me a lot of toys ....
