Revisiting remote start once again.......

I am a brand new Maxima owner. I have only had the car for about 2 weeks now and absolutely love it.

My question is in regards to adding a remote start to the factory alarm. I have a black 99 and it has a key with a chip in it. I have read several posts on adding a ramote start but found only one that mentions having the extra key for the remote start. After searching the forums I have a few questions that remain.

My questions are...

1. Do I need an extra key to add the remote start?
2. If so where do I get the module that holds the key and how much is it? Dealer?
3. Is this a job that a do it yourselfer should attempt having installed 3 alarms (one with remote start)?
4. For those of you who already have this done on the factory remote...what brand of starting module do you have?
5 Lastly, are there any detailed instructions available for this project?

Please be gentle as this is my first post on this forum. If I missed anything I apologize in advance.

Thanks,

Chad

Anyone have even a partial answer to my questions? Just lookin for ANY help on this issue. Thanks in advance for your responses.

I have a 99, chipped key, the remote start that was put in my car is called the Vallet. It triggers off my factory remote, 2 lock impulses starts the car. No need to carry an extra remote! You do need to purchase an additional module which hids a chipped IGNITION key in your car. The total cost for install was 250 plus tax.

Do not go to your dealer for this. They only outsource it and you wind up paying the outsourcing, plus the middle man charge (dealer). Find a quality local aftermarket car audio shop, look in the phone book. Call and ask about installations, if the guy knows his stuff, he'll alredy know you have a chipped key.

I've had mine in for over 2 years now. Works perfect every time. IF you need any more info, PM me.

Well they have to "hide" a key in your car someplace. If someone knows where the module is that contains the key, well think about that.

Shaving the key means grinding down the actual metal key cut making is useless in the tumblers. Key no turney, car no go.

Thanks, Thats what I figured...

I wasn't sure if I would sound more idiotic by asking the question or by assuming I knew what you were talking about. So I went with the question. As a father always said....

"There are no stupid questions, just stupid people."

Best tip I can give you is to get rid of the factory alarm because its garbage. Get a whole new alarm with remote start and if you have the money go for the pager. My alarm with remote start and pager cost $350 including installation. Its by delta and I love it.

Wires??

I got the remote start and alarm combo thing, and my friend told me that he could install it for me. Surprise surprise he cant finish it. I went to a audio store and they say since it was already started they wont touch it. So what I am asking for is if anyone has a list of what wire does what. I would appreciate it greatly. I have a 96 GXE.
Thanks,
Tom

I don't really know of any factory alarm that is useful for more than the keyless entry feature. I am really not depending on it for protecting my car from theft. I am just using it for the convenience factor. I live in a fairly small town where theft is not a big issue.

The car I drive downtown Kansas City (to work and back) is an SHO. It has a real alarm system in it with remote start, dual shock sensor, multiple backup batteries, hood and trunk pin switches, and starter kill. Even with all that if a thief wants the car they are gonna get it. I just have more to keep the wanna-be theives at bay.
