i have a 99 maxima SE. It's not lowered at all. standard 16" rims. But it scrapes whenever i go over larger than normal speed bumps. i know it sounds dumb, but none of my friends' cars scrape on these bumps. and it drives me crazy cuz the car looks pretty high. is there something that hangs especially low on maximas? or is something wrong w/ my car? can i fix this?
well..
a stock Max has 5 inches of ground clearance, so you must have really big speed bumps where you live. I've come across a few pretty big ones, and here's my approach:
Take the bump at an angle. The object is to have at least one wheel on the bump at all times. To do this, for example, turn the wheel to the right as you approach it, try for about a 45(?) degree angle of incidence to the bump. This way, your LF wheel goes over first, then your RF, then as it's coming down, your LR wheel hits the bump, followed by your RR. If you get the angle just right, the middle of your car should never hit the speed bump, because as one wheel is rolling down the bump, the next one is rolling up the bump.
Note: if anyone honks at you b/c you're taking too much time/roadspace to cross speed bumps, make *ABSOLUTELY SURE* to give them your right middle finger, keeping your left hand on the wheel.

I had the same problem. what's scraping is the stock big **** resonator. just go under and take a look, it's the big canister with a little flap holding on to it. You can replace it with the courtesy one which has a smaller resonator or stillen without the resonator and get performance out of it too.

My Problem
I have the same problem you do. I beleive the problem is that the front of the car extends too far over the front wheels. The bumper and front fascia are a little more than a foot in front of the wheels. On a BMW the bumper extends half the distance. That is at least my problem. My front is scraping when I pull out of driveways. You just have to remember to take you time, approach it slow, and possibly at an angle.
