Whats the deal with O/D?

Whats the deal with O/D?

I was just wondering what exactly does overdrive do? Should i always have it on or only at certain times?

The only thing that "O/D off" does is lock out 4th gear.

I promise, that's all it does.

I have tested so many times with OD on/off under numerous circumstances(street/highway), made no difference to me. I even got a chance to test it at the track, no difference whatsoever. I just leave OD on all the time now. Better for gas mileage too.

if youre doing 40 or so and you have your OD off, when you punch the gas you wont have to come all the way down from 4th gear, you will get a quicker reaction when you hit the gas... same thing with manually shifting down to 2nd or so, but you have to know what speed you can safely do it at
