correct tire pressure

I have a '97 maxima GLE with stock 2001 16" maxima rims on my car. I was wondering wut the correct tire pressure should be for the tires. I have kumho tires on if that matters. I searched and some people say either 33psi for the front and 29psi for the back or 33psi all around. How many people us this psi for their tires w/ 16" rims? What do you guys recommend. I'm currently putting 33psi all around.

33 sounds right. I have a 99 with the 2001 rims and Dunlop sport A2's and I keep them 32 to 33lbs cold.

I've got a 96, so the pressure's prolly aren't the same, but in my car, there's a sticker on the underside of the cover for the armrest thing in the center console that lists the proper pressures for the tires..dunno if you have that sticker. Make sure the tires are cold too..

Re: correct tire pressure

I have a 99 GXE with 225/60/15's, I use 35LB Front and 33 to 35 rear.

I was advised by Discount Tire to use higher pressure when switching to a lower profile tire, i.e., went from 205/55/15's on 98 ZX2 to 205/40/17, advice was to add 4lbs to factory recommendation, so now I use 37-39 Lbs PSI.

Tires have a manufacturer's range and the cars have a manufacturer's range and I think as long as you do not exceed the tire manufacturer's range you are OK.

Low profile

Recently went from stock 15" rims: 215/60/15 to 17": 225/45/17.
Had the stock setup at 33-35psi.
When I talked to Tire rack, they recommended that the 17" tires have 33-35psi for the load requirements of my car (or something like that). When I had them mounted, the shop put 'em in with 25psi?

In any case, I have them at 34-35psi cold. AFter a long drive, I noticed that the pressure increases much more with these low profile tires--near 40psi! Max pressure is 45psi for the tire so I am still save but if you are pumping 37-39psi, you may be approaching the max pressure for your tire so beware...

Tire pressures are always spec'd at cold temps. So, always measure them cold.

On my 215/60-15 I run 33 front and 31 rear.

Re: Low profile

My ZX2 has Falken Ziexes, 44 PSI max pressure allowed, but thanks for the warning. 37 feels OK.

On my Max I tried 37 PSI front, too much, backed off to 35. When I had the stockers replaced at 1200 miles, went with Dunlop D60A2's, installer used 33 PSI, I went to 35 (installer agreed it was OK), car handled much better. Have had Firestone SH30's on for the last 10K miles, much better tire all around, but handling feels sluggish at 33 PSI, much better at 35 PSI.
