Noise when turning
Noise when turning
Every time I make a turn I hear a ooohhhmmmmmm noise apparently coming from the front. Also, it is louder at low speeds. It used to only happen when the car was cold, but now is almost all the time
.
Any ideas? btw this is a 96 GXE 5speed with 60K.

PS fluid is fine. I've been thinking might be CV joint.
and yes, is when I am turning at full in a corner. The worst is when I U turn.

the samething started happening to me last week, when i make a full u turn towards the left i get this loud banging noise. my fluids are fine anyone else had this problem? and how much to fix it?
Re: Noise when turning
Exactly what happens to me in the winter months as well. Mysteriously, the noise is gone when the weather reaches around 50F.
Still wondering what it might be. All fluid and belts are fine too (no worn out belts, but I did not check the tension).

Re: Noise when turning
I thought all power steering pumps whine when you have the steering wheel at full-turn?
Try it when the car is stationary and turn all the way, if that's the same sound you hear .. you're probably fine. Just don't turn it all the way until it locks.

'Tis the brakes - maybe
I think a lot of 4 gens have this problem (in spite of the anti-rattle spring). The brakes pads contact the discs momentarily, till
they get off.
Do this test. As soon as the noise start, apply light pressure to the brake pedal. If the noise goes away, it is the brakes brushing your disks.
It is annoying noise, but I don't think it is detrimental.
manish

i had the same problem awhile ago and after i changed the brake pads it was gone. now i hear it in the rear sometimes. it is the brake because i know that the rotor is a little warped.

REMEMBER GUYS!
NOT! CV Joints(coz its not a ticking noise), NOT BRAKE PADS/DISC (coz my brake pads are newly replaced and i still occasionally hear the "ooohmmmm noise" or hum noise) AND NOT! Wheel Bearing nor Strut Bearings (if you donot hear noise while on mobile also).
i started having it since a year ago.
my mechanic took a look at it and said
that my left control arm bushing is cracked
and it is allowing metal to metal contact
whenever i make a full left turn going slowly.
it's a huge clunking noise. now i haven't
changed the bushing yet so i don't know
if that is the case. however, i do have
tokicos and h&r setup. so i don't know if
it's also related to that too.

Re: Steering Noise
Carlmax95,
I agree with you.
No play on the wheel (and I checked both wheels) ---> not the wheel bearing, not CV Joints (checked on them), soo...hmm.... I wonder what it is....
