I don't suggest you try this.

This is a response I got back in my newbie days when I asked about putting in an alarm for my mom's Accord:

If you were not versed in the installation techniques of a sophisicated alarm system and you successfully installed a alarm, how much protection could that possibly be against theives smarter than you?
If you spend the money for an alarm system and are not sure how to put it in, spend the extra money to pay someone to put it in right or else it's a moot point buying the alarm system in the first place.

I put my own alarm in, and I'm not an alarm/security expert. I did install my stereo (twice, see pics below), so I have the tools and supplies to wire things cleanly and securely. Here's the deal though: I'm completely friggin' paranoid about car stereo/alarm installers... My girlfriend's car was broken into a week after having her stereo installed at a shop: they took the deck, the speakers, and the CD changer. Here's the kicker though: there was no sign whatsoever of forced entry, her factory alarm had *NOT* gone off, and everything was cleanly removed w/out breaking anything. I have always suspected the shop that did the install, and it was a retail chain, not in the ghetto or anything. I will *never* let a car stereo shop install anything in my car, not just because doing so practically gives them keys to your car, but because if you do it yourself you know how it's done, where everything is, how to troubleshoot if something breaks. If you let someone else do it, and you want to add/replace/fix a component, you then have to go in and figure out what they did.

I suggest you check out www.crutchfield.com. They sell a good, full-featured alarm system at a good price, and they'll help you to the very end if you have problems installing it.
