Help!Hard starting Max

Help, my 95GXE, 80k miles, sometimes doesnt want to start. I have to turn it over at times up to 10sec. and pump the gas to fire it up. Ive tried turning the key on & waiting for the fuel pressure to rise, sometimes this works. It does not do this all the time. Also, the car at times seems to be missing, at low rpms. I think these problems are related. Im going to try puting on a new fuel filter& see what that does. Does anyone have any other ideas? Thanks

Maxima's have a notorious bad starter. They seem to last until 60-80,000 Miles. If you're having problems even after is started then perhaps its something else? Or both,(I hope not).
When my starter went it sounded weak. Werrr.... (veroomm). After I replaced it WERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR..... (verroom). Now it'll crank all day.
Btw... Did you replace your spark plugs and fuel filter at 60,000 miles?

I have had a couple of hard to start days with my Max, and what I have noticed is that it is harder to start the car when it is wet/ damp or very cold. I had a couple of scares a few months back when I turn the key and nothing happened...but then i started to just step on the gas before/as I am starting the car and it is better. I am not sure if this has to do with the starter or the fuel delivery. Just a few weeks ago, after a rainstorm I tried to start the car and it cranked a couple of times before it started. I just got the fuel filter changed (at almost 30k), I hope these sporadic starts will stop...:i

I am having the same prob my starter just went out after like 2 days of rain
(...but as far as your car miss(fire)ing after it starts up it maybe a short in your coil packs OR I think your knock senser going out with mind I just got replaced my motermounts where so bad that it kept yanking the wire out off my knock senser..hope this helps(I think it was the knock senser)

Clean your throttle body. Info can be found at www.motorvate.ca. Make sure your Check Engine Light actually works (should come on when the key is in the on position) then check for codes.
Hard starts are sometimes caused by a weak signal from the crank shaft position sensor (POS). It's located under the car twards the front on the bell housing on the transmission. It looks at the fly wheel. Remove the sensor and clean the tip of it. The sensor is magnetic and collects fine metalic dust which causes the signal to degrade over time.
There is another crank position sensor that looks at the lower pully. Thats crank postion (REF). That also collects fine metalic dust on the pickup. You can get at that sensor by just removing the inner splash shield behind the right front wheel. Just clean off the tip of the sensor with a rag, you don't have to remove it to get at it.
If you're still having hard starts, get a Haynes manual and test the Engine Coolant temp sensor. If it's out of spec you'll get hard starts as well.
