Power steering pump noise

My power steering pump sometimes makes loud whining sounds and that irritates me a lot. It doesn’t leak oil or anything, I have it going for about a 1.5 years. What would you guys recommend? Replace? Rebuild? Let it slide till it breaks? Did anyone replace power steering pump? How much work is it and how expensive replacement pump is?

mine has been doing it for the past year, try changing the fluid and the noise should subside. Also try some power steering pump treatments they might or might not help!!I don't know if they cause any harm
take care,
Jay

Let me guess, it sounds like Chewbacca from Star Wars IS your power steering

You just need to bleed the system. While the car is parked and running, turn all the way to the right, wait a few secs, turn all the way to the left, wait a few secs. Keep doing that until the sound disappears.

This is what bleeding is? I thought there was more to it. YES, mine is doing the same wining-noise thing. How would I go about changing the whole powersteering fluid? Thanks.

Probably the easiest way would be to take kitchen "turkey baster" and suck out as much fluid as you can. Replace the fluid with clean fluid. Drive for a few minutes and repeat the process until the fluid looks clean.

If anyone has factory service manual, what is a correct procedure for power steering fluid replacement?

Yup. Turkey baster is the only way. I have the Nissan FSM. They don't have any drain plugs whatsoever in the power steering system. I guess the fluid doesn't really work that hard to necessitate complete drainage

When you do replace it, put some good stuff in it, Like Mobil 1 Synthetic ATF or Castrol Syntec ATF. Make sure it's Dexron III compatible ATF.
