Who's got the edge

Got a guy that wants to race, driving a bone stock 96 Camry (no clue what trim), should i waste my time and gas, or does he have a chance

He has a small chance, if you give him one. Unless this is for money or you have people that think he could beat you I wouldn't waste my time. Their 0-60 is 8 seconds and I think that's on standard.
Thanks,
Paul

If hes a 5spd V6 it may be tough, gLok runs 14.7-8 stock, but that's him

That's going to be a close one.
Strange enough though, your 15 inch walmart rims might actually help out in the race.

After you beat him:
1. Take his money and buy a Y Pipe.
2. Bet him some more money later.
3. RACE.
4. Take his money and buy a Rim/Tire package.

You're going to spank his a**! the only camry you have to worry about in the V6 with the stick but those are pretty rare. if he has a 4 cylinder, you need to give him a head start and then catch up to him !

I didn't know they had 4 cylinder Camrys, I thought they only made V6. Oh well, you learn something new every day.
Thanks,
Paul

I don't know much about Camry's but I know a guy with a 96 limited edition or something and he has like 180 or 190 horse or something he said which is the same as the maxima. I don't know if thats accurate or not. I didn't know Camry's came in 5 speed though. I think actually most Camrys, well the ones I see are 4 cyl., the V6's say V6 on the right side in the rear.

I believe that you should mollywop wis sorry tail. I don't believe that any other Japenese import ofered the V6/5spd combo as the Max did... I know for a fact that honda dosent.. ( at least in full size sedans... comperable to Maxes...)

Beat him... Show him that beautiful Maxima 6!

while the topic of camry's is out here...

i saw a 2dr camry the other day. it blew my mind because i've never seen that until the newer solara's. this one was approximately a 93-96...and it definately was a camry. it's the only one i've seen like that. also, i think most of the people who own camry's that i know have the 4 and only one person has a 6. i raced for a second the kid with the 6 once and he said he was scared when he heard my floor it...i definately could pull on him, auto vs. auto. ok that's about all i have to say.

has anyone else seen the two door ones?

In '96 only the 4-cylinder Camrys were available with 5-speed. V6's had to be auto, they had 188 hp, and would run 8's to 60 on a cold day going downhill. Race. Him. Now.

If he is v6 and you also have an auto, go race him for lotsa money. If you lose, you will have learned an expensive lesson.

What't the deal bashing camrys anyway? It's basicly a Toyota maxima. It's almost like saying, "I love Mistubishi Eclipse but hate Eagle Talons".

When I had a 97 Volvo V70 GLT, I smoked a Camry badly. You should have no problem. The Max auto runs neck and neck with the V70 GLT.

debatable. i think camrys are nothing like a maxima. same HP and size, but thats about it. styling is totally different, camry is about as un-sporty as 4 door sedans get. They might be a nice car, but really not at all comparable.

let me bring ya'll back to earth here....95 and 96 camry does not come in a 5spd only auto...92-94 i came with v6 5spd...for the camry i believe 92-96 is their 3rd gen...but there are 95-96 owners who have done a tranny swap...3rd gen camry is very similar w/ a 4th gen maxima in performance...their hp range from 183-187hp...very close to a 4th gen max...it will be close race...there was a guy here on the org that lost to a camry...some here even lost to an accord...performance wise all three are very similar...anyone could win any given day between these three cars...

not sure how much in comparison the camry is with the avalon, but i just whipped ones a$$...straight off the line, and increased distance in no time , with three people in the car, and air condition on.
