Where can you get official Nissan key blanks for a 1998 Maxima? And then can you take the blank anywhere to get it cut, or do you have to take it to a dealer?

You can get the key blanks at the dealer. I believe Nissan charges between $10.00-$15.00 for one.

When I went to the dealer and asked for a copy of the key, they gave me a non Nissan key (it's generic), and it cost me $9. What a rip off. I'll have to go back and ask for a Nissan key.

Yes, you ask for copied key they'll most likely give you a generic, non-OEM, matte finished one. You have to specifically ask for the Nissan OEM one.

I bought a genuine Nissan uncut key off of eBay a while back. I had it cut at a local key cutting shop. If you're going to go through a dealer, make sure you get it from one of the dealers on the .Org. You'll save some money that way. Let's see, there's Courtesy Nissan, Tustin Nissan, or MaximaRacer.

Hope this helps,
-Nick
