vehicle speed sensor

hey guys. i'm new to the board. my mom's max is having a little problem. few weeks ago, the check engine light came on. codes 0104 and 0504 came up. i reset it to see if it would go away like some others did with these codes. but it came back up last week. i tried pulling and pushing the sensor to see if it was seated wrong, but i couldn't actually get it to come out of the tranny. i also tried disconnecting the harness and connecting it again. no luck. i've driven the car almost the whole week last week, all highway, and the speedo never dropped, or suddenly went high, always seemed correct, and stable. also last week, the cruise cut off, i'm guessing cause of the sensor. so its probably a bad vehicle speed sensor? but then why wouldn't it read a wrong speed. any one have suggestions? thanx, i'll probably try to pull the thing out completely in a few days. how difficult shold it be to pull out? i really tried tugging with the limited space i had.

There's a bolt holding it in...

Get a Haynes Manual.

The Haynes manual also shows you how to use the Transmission and OD Light to check if the speed sensor is working.
