Searched and searched. Read for 2 hours. Still cannot decide what to do for intake!

I have searched and searched, reading for over 2 hours. I still cannot decide what to do for an intake on my 96 GLE Auto.

Here are my factors-
I like my quiet ride, so I would like to limit the intake sound increase.
I am new to maximas, though i have modded cars before, so you have to talk basic.
I like low end, but don't want to hurt high-end power. I want to gain low end, hopefully not at the expense of high RPM power.
I would rather not cut my fender for a CAI, but will if I need to.
I have read about CAIs, Stillen intakes, popchargers, and hybrids, but STILL cannot tell the difference.
Money is a factor, but not the only factor.

So here is my question-
What intake setup is the best for low end power (without sacrificing high-end power), for the money, on a 1996 GLE Auto, given the fact that I would like to keep it moderately quiet and will do it myself?

You might also wanna look into the new Injen CAI for our cars. I think some members have installed it already.

The choice is simple do the OSCAI and remove the upper resonator.

All the intake are basically the same. Intake does start making any noise until after 4000rpm. IMHO the intake hurts the low end power, it might be that the intake negatively affects the throttle response (step on gas, lag, then go). CAI extreamlly loud, not really sure if there are any performance gains, also hard to put back to stock if needed. Should be able to get something around $100.00.

I had my intake in for a while, and when it took it off to take my car for service, i noted how much nicer the throttle response was and how quiet it was, so I sold the intake

OSCAI - And don't touch anything else! You keep nice throttle response, it's quiet yet it will give you a slight edge on the top end.

Ok, you've done all the research.

After all the reading and all the debate, I have reached a conclusion for myself.

Get the one you can afford and the one you like. You will get a nice growl and a nice gain from any of them. Don't worry about it too much.

But, I'm cheap, so I have OSCAI.

I would say go for the FrankenCar. Don't they have better low end power than the others?

Check out this thread:

...and here is Franken Car's website:

Hope this helps,

What is OSCAI?

WHat does the OS in OSCAI stand for? I have the "CAI" part down... And what does the "OS" part do that the regular CAIs do not.

I looked at the frankencar intake, as well as the waepon R intake. Either looks good, I just want the one that is quieter, even if it costs me a HP or so. i know that sounds wussy, but I will be commuting a lot, and don't want that annoying sound.
Which of those 2 will leave me wiht better throttle response? Will it be about even?

THANKS for everything so far, guys!

Ooglie Stock Cold Air Intake

It involves adding an extra duct to the stock intake ducting. Yes, it works.

Search for it.

I have the FrankenCar intake and I don't see how you can get any quieter than that. You don't hear it at all when driving normally and when you accelerate hard is the only time you'll hear it.
