96 manual Maxima GXE

when the car is moving, i can not shift to the 1st gear,
if the car is not moving, i can shift to 1 without any problem
so it is an original setup or something is wrong then what kind of problem need to to be fixed?

it's set up that way to prevent you from slipping into first accidently....and besides you would kill the tranny if you were going over 5 mph. it will go into first if you are slightly moving.

You can go into 1st at more than 5mph... people do it in autoX every day.

You might crunch if you try shifting too quickly into first when you're going a little more than 5mph. Kinda have to ease it in there and rev-match well. Though with the max's low end power, there really shouldn't be a need to downshift into first I'd think.

This is normal for most manual trannies, not just Maximas. I think it has to do with the synchros, when going 5 or 10 mph and then trying to go into 1st, the tranny will be goin much much faster than the "engine", so to speak. So, the synchro has to work very hard to match the speeds. NickStam's suggestion of blipping the throttle will help. Also, changing to a synthetic gaer oil, like Redline MT-90 will also. Once I put in MT-90 I found it easier to get into 1st while rolling. Now, I just tend not to engage 1st while rolling becuase I want my synchros to last, or at least this 1st gear synchro. The synchros, I beleive, are the most expensive wear items of a manual transmission.

When you're moving, there's no reason to put it back into first. Just drop it back to second. I only use first when I'm taking off from a stop (in my lady's Accord 5 speed).
