Well i currently have a 87 Grand National, its got ported and polished aluminuim heads, 70mm throttle body, boost controller, spark intensity controller, adjustable ultrachip, and 3inch exhaust, and more goodies. But i have always like the 4th generation maxima's. So now i am back think of getting a max and possibly selling my GN. The car is dangerously fast, and definately not a toy. But i have a baby boy on the way and maybe a max will be a little safer and more roomier for someone with a heavy foot like me.

 

Can you keep the GN as a fun car and have a Max at the same time?

 

The Maxima is pretty much the only "family sedan" that gets real enthusiasts attention for it's power.

Just some stats for your enjoyment:

Stock times for 1995-99 Maxima's

95-96: 0-60 6.5-6.6 seconds | 1/4th Mile: 14.8-15.2
97-99: 0-60 6.7 seconds | 1/4th Mile: 14.9-15.3

The 95-96 maxima is lighter and thought to have less restrictions so it is a hair quicker in stock form. I have a '95, but I think 97-99's look significantly better in STOCK form, but if you plan on modding like I have the difference in looks can turn directions.

I dont think i will be able to keep both at the same time, but who knows maybe i will. I would rather have one do to insurance and other reasons (maintaining both).

I would keep that '87 for those insane times when you really want to haul ***. You won't have the same effect with the Max...

Wow, it'd be odd having a GN that you're modding as your daily driver.
I'd like something like a GN or an older g-body domestic, etc, as a secondary drag/project car.

The fourth gen max shouldn't disappoint, especially if you go with a 5-speed. With a manual, it's definitely still fun to actively drive, but also just fine for normal city-trafficish transportation. Plus there's moderate room and safety for when your son enters the world.

good choice in wanting a max. Try for both if you can but if not go for a maxima. good car, safe, good reliability, roomy, good performance especially with a 5speed, its a sedan with an enthusiest to bring out the sports car in it

If you truly are looking for a family car, then the Maxima is not the best choice. You might want to consider the Subaru Legacy, VW Passat and some of the other offerings before you settle on a used 4th Gen.

 

Man, I want the GN. Try and keep the car and get the Maxima. I would seriously try and buy the GN from you, but the only thing holding me back is the lack of garage space. I only have a one car garage. Keep the GN, it's a collectors car. It might be fast as all Hell, but GNs are completely docile when cruising. I don't see why it couldn't be a family car too.
