How loud should the V1 Supercharger be?

OK, I'm still trying to troubleshoot my boost problem. Today we determined that vacuum pressure is normal, and I have no leaks in the vacuum system.

So my next question is:

How loud is the V1 SC Supposed to be? I know they make noise, but mine is REALLY loud, and sounds like a metal on metal whine.

It's so loud that people always look at my car, and a couple of people have walked up to me and said "hey man, is your car alright?"

I'm thinking it's at about 80Db, a little less than a fan belt slipping on a truck kind of loudness.

Is this normal?

Hmmm...have you ever heard a Ford Lightning? Or how about that recent video posted here about that 2k2 Max racing that Prelude with the JR Supercharger? Does your SC sound similer to any of those? What do you mean by metal to metal sound? Maybe something is loose, some bolts or something. I wish you had a sound clip!

The V1 SC is very loud. Mardigrasmax has one on his car. Everytime I could hear him coming. I hear his SC before I even see his car...lol. At first, I thought the V1 is too loud, but that sound is just addicting. I'll find out soon enough.

Ian's car is HELLA loud, when it's at idle it sounds like a million angry crickets are buzzing around his S/C, gets a little quiter once the Rpms come up... Well not really quieter, the cricket noise just goes away...

Check that out. The camera magnified the sound ALOT, so it's actually louder in the video than in real life, but I'm hoping the tone of the sound could tell you something.

Also, I videotaped the vacuum guage moving. According to the Haynes manual, it is working perfectly, and is not indicating any sort of problem. (No vibrating, no slow return after throttle is blipped, etc, etc.)

It should be between 17 and 22Hg at idle, and that's what it appears to be.

The one from inside the car (vacuumgauge.mov) is probably the best all around video.

Anyway, let me know. This boost problem is killing me.

Since there is obviously no vacuum leak, it's either a high-pressure leak (only happens when boosting), a bad Supercharger, or my engine is F'ed.

(But the engine does sound good..no audible misfiring, just the injectors going tick-tick-tick. (Matt's heard it).)

No CEL, and when I pull the codes, I get 0505, all sytems normal.

It's kind of hard to judge. From the inside(vacuum video), it sounded fine to me. However, from the outside videos, it sounded way too loud. Then again, you did say the sound was magnified.

Yes, the inside video sounds the closest to reality.

I'll leave it at that then.

My latest theory is that my EGR gasket is leaking under boost, but I'm not sure if that would affect boost directly.

Anyone know the answer to that?

Where's Daniel B. martin when you need him?
