flowmaster problem and a newbie question.. haha

alright, i got a new flowmaster 2 chamber muffler on my 95 GXE. But there is one problem, it is not loud as i want it to be. I think it's almost close to stock. What can be the problem? Keeping in mind that that is the only mod i have.

Also, what is a resonator? Is it a pipe or something.

If you want it to be loud, you gotta free up the piping that leads up to the muffler. In other words, get a Y-pipe and maybe a B pipe.

I'm not so sure about the resonator, but I think its something to do with your intake. Somebody more knowledgeable should be able to answer this.

well, the muffler shop i went to buy and instal the flowmaster at said that to call them if i didn't like the sound so they could get rid/change to resonator. I didn't ask him what it was because i was more in tuned in reversing my car through the maze of other cars and fences out of there. I want to go back tomorrow since they are close on Sundays. Reading previous posts, a welder is needed to get rid of the resonator. Thanks.

Once you get a y-pipe, you will hate that Flowmaster. A y-pipe will dramatically increase noise, resonance, drone, and other ugly sounds. Most people end up going with the stock muffler after they get a y-pipe because the noise level is so bad.

don't worry, there are many people, that upon addin a mod are disappointed at first. when i put on my place racing CAI, i left the shop at WOT and hated the noise, but it grew on me in 2-3 days, and now i floor it, just to hear it!!

Wide Open Throttle. Get an intake system and your car will sound more like a V8.

Yeah I have a B-pipe with a Flowmaster muffler and a K&N filter with a custom upper intake pipe that replaces the intake resonator. It's very close to the V8 sound, but only while driving, its just loud in N it doesnt gargle. With a y-pipe I think it would go all the way.

Before Dave B. jumps on this i'll clear things up...

NOTHING we do to our cars will make it sound like a V8. CAI's will make our cars sound very awesome under WOT, and exhausts will give us a deep tone, but not anything like most V8's. Have you ever heard a Camaro 5.7L or a Stang 4.6L with flowmasters and an intake, Deezo?
It sounds alot different from our 3.0 V6's, ALOT. Alot more depth and grumble.

I have a WSP Y-pipe --> Stock catalyst --> 2.5" B-pipe with no resonator --> Flowmasters V-force camaro muffler -->Dual exhausts. On cold starts my exhaust sounds kind of raspy under light acceleration, but as soon as it warms up or I get up to speed it sounds awesome. Very deep and grumbly tone around town. A little high pitched on the highway but it sounds race-like. Not buzzy like a 4-banger. But by the same token My setup sounds NOTHING like a V8. With the same mods any american V8 is going to sound significantly different.

hmm, i checked the straight pipe they welded on.. and it seems a tiny bit smaller piping than the exaust pipes. What's the size of the stock exaust pipes in a 95 maxima?

Oh yea, and how does a resonator work? When i saw mine, it is way bigger than the size of the straight pipe, yet i would believe that more air flow would be going through since it made the muffler loud.

What is a V-force muffler? Is that the same thing as Flowmaster 40 series, etc.?

It's an older type that came off a camaro and is made by flowmasters...I beleive it's the same thing as a 40 series, it's loud and throaty, and very thin.

Dave B was saying how you will hate the sound of that flowmaster after you add a downpipe or midpipe, but that is totally personal opinion. I personally love the sound my car makes 88% of the time.

How will that Flowmaster sound with an otherwise stock exhaust, especially on the highway?
