Dyno Results

Just got home from getting my car dyno'd. I have a 1997 5-speed, PR intake, Cattman y-pipe, RT cat, and Stillen cat-back. Max HP was 166.8 @ 5500 RPM, and max TQ was 177.6 @ 3300 RPM.

I did three runs, all in 4th gear. When I first started the car on the rollers, the ABS light came on and I got super worried. I asked him and he said it was because the rear wheels wern't moving, DUH!!!

Those results seem low to me. The dyno guy figured it out to be 192hp and 204tq at the crank, which would be fine if I was stock, but...it was suggested that I go to a shop and have a fuel/cleaner mixture ran thru the fuel rail at high pressure to clean the rail/injecters, and I need to check my plugs and most definatly the flex section of my y-pipe.

EDIT: The dyno files themselves are available, PM me your email address or AIM name and I will send them over. The graph looks pretty bumpy, so I'd like some advice on that.

Any tips/advice/questions are welcomed.

Yeah, get the your fuel system cleaned, and dyno again. You have all of the mods I plan to get, and hopefully, it can acheive better results. Oh yeah, I really like your wheels and drop. Looks really clean and classy.

Thanks Sprint springs on AGX struts, but it's not low enough for me.

It's a bit low for a 5 speed. I put down about 10hp short of that on my auto without nitrous.

There is definitely something not right. Most 4th gen 5speeds with similar mods put down 18X hp and at least that much in torque....

10 bucks says that it's your y-pipe flex section. Get that checked out before you spend ANY money on any other potential remedy.

Here's a link about the y-pipe flex problem

https://maxima.org/forums/showthread...ght=ypipe+flex

I dynoed about the same as you...and after I'd spent WAY too much $$ on other things that I thought could be wrong...I finally found my flex section was screwed up...now ALL my power is back.

Thanks a lot. I will check out that link, and drop my y-pipe as soon as I have time off work again. I had it down last week and it looked OK to my untrained eyes, but I guess I will take the whole pipe down and investigate...sigh.

Hrm, that's within 3HP and 2TQ of what I was putting down in my 1995 GLE with nothing but a WSP non-mandrel bent y-pipe.

Are your results SAE corrected? My 95 $E 5 speed (130,000 miles) w/ Stillen Intake and WSP y put out max hp of 177.4 and max torque of 186.3. So those #'s are considered low? They've been comparable to others in my area. The dyno shop also said these #s are corrected. I've noticed others on the board consitently have a little more hp and some have ridiculously more torque. It seemed to me that most of those people had udp I do think I may have a problem w/ my fuel pump or regulator so hopefully I'll find some hidden power if I fix that.

My 1997 SE auto with PR CAI, budget y-pipe, RT cat, Custom cat back exhaust, and dynomax muffler put dow 173 HP and 183 TQ

I think you are about 10 HP/TQ under where you should be

The shirking flex section is a good route, also spark plugs and fuel filter, basic maint items

Basic maintinence was all done on Christmas day, so I'm pretty sure it isn't any of that. Yes, those numbers are corrected.

I highly doubt that spark plugs or a dirty fuel filter would drop a car over 20 fwhp.

I'd say either the flex or the knock sensor...check the flex first...the knock sensor is EXPENSIVE.

Get those dyno figures posted

global_threat - good luck diagnosing your loss. Hopefully it's simple to locate.

EVERYBODY ELSE - I see 3 dyno's listed in this thread that aren't posted in the new Dyno section. Get those added so others can can compare and find possible problems too!

I dont know much about the dyno or how much power my car even makes because I dont have $ or know a shop thats even close by to do the dyno's. But your numbers are only putting out stock numbers. Check that flex!
