Has anyone put a '97+ HomeLink visor on their '95/'96?

I am considering buying one. Someone is selling a HomeLink visor out of their parted '97. It is gray like my headliner so it is very tempting. I am just concerned it isn't a simple plug and play. Does anyone know for sure? He mentioned there was a square plug. He said he could give me the other end of the plug and whatever it leads to on the car if I need. I was thinking that it would probably plug right into another '97+ but I'm afraid it won't plug into my '96 since the HomeLink didn't even exist in '96. So if anyone has done this, I'd really appreciate a confirmation. Thanks.

I don't think it's plug and play, I almost bought a visor with Homelink in it from my local junk yard. But when I saw the connection and realized I did not have any of those wires run, I said to hell with it. I don't think the sensor that sends out information is in the visor either so you will have to get that I think.

All Homelink needs is a battery (+) and ground (-) feed.Nissan typically splices the power and ground feed to the visors. Why don't you do a splice job? Cut the connectors and splice the sucker.

Are you 100% sure about that pocket or is this just your educated guess? I have thought about that too. That I could splice. But I don't want to go on theory. I want fact. That's why I phrased my original question as "Has anyone put a ..." and not "Is it possible to put a...". So are you 100% sure it is only power and ground? Also, is the actual sending device in the visor along with the buttons or in the car somewhere? Thanks everyone. I'd really like to do this.

Well, I finally got my visor! I installed it and EVERYTHING was 100% the same. Same color wires, same plug/connection, etc. Fit right on and works absolutely fine.

The conclusion is, if you have a '95/'96 with lighted vanity mirrors, you can easily put on a '97-'99 HomeLink visor.

Maybe you didn't understand me. It is a direct fit. Unplug the old visor. Plug in the new one. Piece of cake.

Pop off a cap, 2 screws and a plug - that's it.

I bought mine for $70 shipped from a parted out Maxima. Just check the for sale section, check junk yards, or check with Delio, he has a gray one that he can't get to work because he has a GXE with no lighted vanity mirrors.

Re: :o)

Does anyone have the instructions for how to use the HomeLink? I don't have the owners manual, and I remember looking at the AllData database at my buddies' shop and couldn't find any documentation.

Does it do anything else other than open garage doors?

Yes, here are on-line .pdf manuals.

http://www.nissan-techinfo.com/deptog.asp?dept%5Fid=37

Just go to the '97-'99 and go the very end of chapter 1 (page 1-24 in the '97).

Other than garage doors? It talks about gates and even turning on your house lights - so I guess yes.

what if you dont have lit vanity mirrors cuz the dealer screwed you when you paid for and were supposed to get the security and convenience package but just got a cheap aftermarket alarm instead of the factory alarm, lit vanities, power driver side seat, power trunk, and gave you 2 free tuneups to shut you up but you were too excited to get your max anyway and said fug it? will the plugs still be there? or will splicing be needed? thanks

I talked to Del about it and he said he searched all around in his headliner for the plug but couldn't find. My guess is it has to be there! It is a white, square plug with a white and orange wire leading to it. I'm guessing it should be up in the front, left corner somewhere, just taped up. If you don't see it then I guess you'll have to splice.
