thinkin about racing a vette!

my friends dad is a real good guy, but overly confident. he kept on saying how his supercharged bonneville would kill my max, well my friend took it out and i destroyed him. but his dad also has a 77 corvette. its not souped up or anything and guess its not all that fast, cuz he lost horribly to a 14.3 second trans am, a couple weeks ago, so my question is can i beat him eventually while still staying N/A?? i am a 96' auto with CAI. the vette is auto as well and isnt a big engine, im not sure exactly but its smaller than a 427 or a 350. what do you think??

I'm thinking you have no chance N/A. Even if his car isn't quick as all hell, I'm guessing its still probably in the 14s. You being auto, with pretty much all the bolt ons for a Max short of NOS will only be low 15s at best I would say. I would reccomend a no go on this one

my friend in HS had two vettes... one was like an 87 with a tiny V8... it only produced 210-220hp and was auto. it had the low end of a v8, but really wasn't that fast. he raced a guy with a 93 zx 5sp and it was dead even to 80mph or so. the next year he got new one, i guess it was the 350ci, with ~270hp... they raced again and i'll just say it wasn't pretty. but back on topic, if you are an auto, i really don't think you stand a chance.

It might be a pretty close race.

Read these specs.

Actually, the '76/'77 vettes are laughably slow. They are arguably the crappiest vettes ever made. If his car is factory stock, then it should be a decent race, Auto or not. Just for the record, I've been into vettes since I was a kid so this isn't a bag on American cars session. I would kill to have a '69 Vette conv. Race him, you might be surprised.

Those newer Trans ams are fats so you can;t go off of that. Yeah they had low HP numbers but proabbaly have a bunch more torque down low than a Max. You'd lose at lower speeds and walk him at higher.

IF you ever wanted to race a vette a auto L48 is the way to go.....i wish you were a 5-speed with a y and cai... the vette would be a good dinner for you, very filling..

race safe,

D

I would race him. As far as you not kowing the motor, chances are it is a 350. I have never heard of anyone putting anything smaller than that in a vette. it would be ridiculous to put anytihn smaller. Most vettes around that year are very slow. And if he had a 427 you would know, I hope. i would not only race him but would give him some land to make things half a$$ fair. Of course that is just me....
